We make frequent trips to our public library. It’s one of the girls’ favorite outings of the week. Despite all my guiding efforts, they are not very good at picking out quality children’s books. In fact, it seems that they are drawn to the worst children’s books on the planet. (Is this just my kids, or…!?!?!) To combat their amazing ability at picking out horrible books, I’ve started choosing books on our library’s website to be on hold for us. The kids can still pick out a couple while we’re there too, but we all benefit from the filtered selection.
In the past several months of doing this, we’ve discovered a lot of new favorite children’s books at our library, and I thought I’d share them with you! As I was creating the list, it seemed easier to use an “Amazon Store” (see below) than to just list all the titles. Now, you can judge the books by their covers. 😉 I organized the list into favorite books for 1, 2, and 3 year olds. (Use the menu on the right side of the Amazon Store Below to browse the various categories.)
I stuck to recommending only the books that the kids have asked to read over and over. There are a few pages for each category, so be sure to hit “next” and see all the titles.
Also, my 2 and 3 year olds still love to read some of the books in the 1 year old section, so each age group is not exclusive. Each book is sorted into the age group that my kids seemed to begin really enjoying and requesting the book.
One more thing. My kids seem to really enjoy exhausting ALL THE BOOKS about one character: Clifford, Maisy, Thomas, Dora, etc… Once they get hooked on a character, they want to read ALL the books about that character. I get tired of some of them (ahem: Thomas the Train), but I want my kids to love reading, so we read the darn character books again and again. The girls actually discovered the Dora books before the TV show. I eventually spilled the beans that there is a tv show and they are obsessed. The other day, they were chanting Dora-isms through Target. They love that there are questions and puzzles to figure out in each new book. Their 2 favorite character books for a while have been Dora & Maisy. I have to admit, the Maisy books are pretty cute. The Dora books, well, … I’d put them in the category of sacrificial-things-you-do-for-your-kids.
Anyway, without further adieu…

(Or as Dora would say, por favor…) 😉
